On Saturday, November 1, Barb, Robyn and I drove to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. West Virginia was a state none of us had ever been to. Harpers Ferry is about an hour and a half outside of DC. Even though it was November, the fall foliage was beautiful!
We walked around this adorable little historic town!
We had lunch at an adorable Bed and Breakfast! The food was really good!
Next we drove to Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland. The weather was super cold and windy so we actually just went into the visitor's center and watched the video about the battlefield in which Robyn and Barb slept through:)
Antietam Battlefield is the bloodiest one day battle in American history, 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862.
After a fun day exploring outside of the DC Metro area, we went back to their hotel room so they could pack. We had dinner at a really good burger place next to their hotel. After I left their hotel I 'thought' I knew how to get home, so I didn't need the GPS. Yeah, I knew I was in trouble when I could see the Washington Monument out the front windshield. I somehow went northeast and ended up in Georgetown. I went the complete opposite way! What would have taken me 30 minutes took me 1.5 hours. Yeah, GPS is essential here!
On Sunday I took Barb and Robyn to the airport and I was so sad to say goodbye. I had known about this trip since before I left Idaho and I was so looking forward to their trip and now that it was over, I was so sad. It was really fun to meet and hangout with Robyn. She was so nice to let me tag along. Having Barb here was amazing. I just love her to pieces. She has truly been such a huge part of my DC story. She has been there for me through it all. I can't explain how great it feels to feel all alone in this new world of mine, but knowing that she is just a text message away. My MAF story may be over, but the friendships that I made there will last a lifetime.
