On Saturday, September 20th, we went the Mount Vernon for the first time since we moved here for the annual Colonial Market Fair. We bought annual passes because it was $10 more than the one time pass and since we live about 3 miles from Mount Vernon we knew we would be going several times within the year.
The Colonial Fair featured fifty colonial-attired artisans demonstrating 18th-century crafts and
selling traditional wares such as baskets, woodcarvings, tin and ironwork,
leather-workings, weavings, furniture, and much more.Costumed interpreters demonstrated the 18th-century
chocolate-making process using an authentic colonial recipe!
We didn't do the house tour because the lines were crazy long, but since our first visit we have been able to tour the house twice now.
On the back lawn over looking the Potomac River.
To cool off we went through the museum.
George Washington's dentures.
Below is a key on when buildings/monuments started being constructed in DC.
As I was reading the pamphlet about the Fair I read that they were doing free tours on the Potomac River. So, I went back on Sunday, but they were all sold out :( So, I wandered around for a little bit before going home because it was hot outside!
