Snowzilla 2016

As I write this post, I am still in the middle of Snowzilla!
On Tuesday, January 20, during the evening commute the DC area got around 1 inch of snow and people freaked out! There were 1000's of accidents and it took people 8+ hours to get home. But what was hilarious is the fact that this 1 inch of snow was just 2 days before DC was forecasted to get 18+ inches of snow. The next day schools were delayed, so Anthony offered to take me to the metro - it took us an hour to go 6 miles - an hour! The DC/Maryland/Virginia government apologized for not being prepared for the 1 inch of snow and to rectify the situation they dumped a ton of salt on the roads and sidewalks.
On Friday, January 22, my work allowed us to work from home because the storm was going to start sometime in the afternoon. Plus all DC metro buses were shutting down at 5pm and metro was shutting down at 11pm. DC was shutting down. Over and over the news told people to be home by 3pm and to not be on the roads until at least - Monday. So, on Friday, Anthony and I worked at Starbucks for a couple hours.

We decided we needed ice cream before the storm really started...so we went out after just 2 hours of the snow starting.
As we went into the evening hours of the storm I was worried about losing power. If we lost power we would have no way to keep our house warm as we do not have a fireplace or a generator. Around, 6:30am we all were woken up because of thunder snow. Yes, thunder snow! I also occasionally woke up during the night to make sure the power was still on. We made it through the night and kept our power! And when we opened our door we had 17 inches of snow! We went to bed with about 5 inches of snow.

 Poor Bumblebee!
The dog's had a canopy to protect them from all the elements and unfortunately the weight of the overnight snow caused the canopy to break.

 So much snow!

They recommended that shoveled your snow every 4 hours to keep up with it. So, we followed their rules and seriously - so much snow.  Texas boy (notice the shoes) shoveling the snow.

Dexter was getting bored in the house - so decided to treat me as a chair, a couple times.

Around 5pm we went outside again and cleaned the snow and then walked down our hill to see what others were doing. I also wanted to let Bumblebee know that I hadn't forgot about him.

Before we went inside for the evening we fell into the snow! Another memorable experience in DC!!
