Joint Base Andrews Air & Space Expo

On Saturday, May 11 Stephanie and I went out to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland for the Air & Space Expo. I love airplanes, I'm not sure why - but they just fascinate me! Stephanie kindly drove us to FedEx Field (where the Redskins play) where we went through security and then boarded shuttle buses to Andrew's. Andrews is a base and as we all know this is where Air Force Once lives. Lots of pictures of super huge planes that we were able to explore and then of course we watched the air shows.

We only stood in one line to see the inside of a cockpit.

Of course we were really there for the airshows. The first one we saw was the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds were created in 1953 and are based in my homeland, Nevada at Nellis Air Force Base outside of Vegas. They are the third oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world. The Thunderbird pilot's fly the F-16 Fighting Falcon.

The Thunderbirds were amazing! How they fly so close together at high speeds and low altitude is beyond me. It's also crazy how these planes can sneak up on you and you don't even realize they flew over your until they are gone.
After the Thunderbirds we wandered around to see more of the static displays as we awaited the next airshow.

Finally the Navy Blue Angels. The Blue Angels formed in 1946 are aviators from the Navy and the Marines and is the 2nd oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world (the first is  the French Patrouille de France formed in 1931). The Blue Angels fly the Boeing F/A-18 Hornet.

It was an amazing day and I am so glad that we went.
