4th of July in our Nation's Capital!

The 4th of July in Washington, DC - check that off of the bucket list. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday and being in our national capital makes for a perfect event. Doing some research, we decided rather than fighting all the mall security we would go to Iwo Jima area in Arlington and watch the fireworks.

On the metro a few hours early, so we can get a good spot at Iwo Jima.
It rains here, a lot...I mean a lot! It just so happened that around 5pm on the 4th there was a downpour of rain, so we ate our all American dinner at a random spot around the Rossyln metro.
We got to the perfect spot to see the fireworks.

However, we were not prepared to wait for 3+ hours with wet grass. So, we called around to different CVS's and finally found camp chairs at a metro a few stops away from Rossyln. Anthony made the trek and grabbed us 3 camps chairs. He is such a trooper!
Now it was getting dark and almost time for fireworks! I love fireworks, love, love, love them!
Hmnn...this looks like a bomb was dropped on the National Mall. Because of the humidity from the evening storm the smoke had nowhere to go, so it just lingered :(

Bummer. Next year I will suck it up go to the mall, because of this picture....
My friend took this picture. Next year. Overall, it was still a great experience!
