Karen, Kimberley and Marcos Visit - Day 1

The start of tourist season is among us and we had our first set of guests! My dear friends, Karen and Kimberley came and they bought Kimberley's boyfriend, Macros! Karen has been in DC a few times and she is family. But we pulled out all the stops for Marcos. Kimberley and Marcos meet when Kimberley was on a mission trip to Brazil 3 years ago. Since we only have 1 guest room, we had to improvise and create a second guest area in my room. McKeown's like tea, so I took the kettle out of the guest room and had a tea area in the basement. The cousins have 3 very nice air mattresses, so the girls slept on it, next to my bed (notice the mint on their pillows;)).

Kimberley and Macros arrived around 6:00pm on the night of Thursday, March 3 at Reagan National airport and Karen arrived around 8:30pm. So for dinner, Kimberley, Marcos and I went to a really good burger place in Crystal City (right by the airport), then we came back to the airport to grab Karen and make the trek home. On Friday, we started the day by having breakfast at Old Ebbitt Grill. We had a 9am reservation and left with plenty of time to get there, but true to red line form we were stopped for awhile at Union Station and after waiting we got off and grabbed a cab - only to be about 20 minutes late for breakfast. Thankfully, Kimberley's friend, Kathleen, was at the restaurant. After a lovely breakfast, we walked to the Washington Monument and went to the top to see all the DMV area. After the Washington Monument we walked to the Supreme Court. This was my first Supreme Court tour and it was very informative - we got to set in the Supreme Court! (apparently I didn't take any pictures - but that is not that shocking.)
After the Supreme Court tour we went over tot the Capitol for a Capitol tour (this was my 50th (not really), but I have been on a lot of tours, so I slept through it. After the Capitol tour we walked in the underground  tunnel to the Library of Congress, where Tuf met us (and now I have pictures). I have been inside Library of Congress 3 times now, and it is such a beautiful building.

The Thomas Jefferson Reading room. This legend explains the books and what the different markers mean.
After the Library of Congress we started walking towards dinner at Matchbox in Chinatown. On our way to the restaurant we walked through a Smithsonian, The National Art Gallery.
At Matchbox we had dinner with Anthony and Melissa. Good first day of exploring DC!
