Kathie's Visit - Day 6

My last full day with Kathie and we were going to make the most out of it! We left the house around 8am. Our first stop was for breakfast at Lincoln's Waffle Shop! This place has amazing food and is a total dive.
Chicken and waffles a southern thing (I don't get it).
After breakfast we walked the National Mall. Can you believe that Kathie had been in DC for almost a week, and she had yet walked the mall!

When we got over to the Tidal Basin it was flooded again. Being adventurous people, I told Kathie she should try and go out to the bench. And she did! Crazy Kathie.

Crazy Kathie for sure, but fun photos!

During tourist season it is hard to get tickets to go to the top of the Washington Monument. I was able to get one ticket, so Kathie could go to the top and see amazing views of the DMV. I stayed at the base (and got sun-burnt). It was crazy windy!

After walking all of the National Mall, Tidal Basin and White House area we had a late lunch at Cosi, then went over to Archives and the sculpture garden. After we were done with all of that it was only 5pm. What to do...what to do... go home? Nah, let's go to Old Town Alexandria and take the ferry to National Harbor (another new adventure for me!).

And the reason why we went to National Harbor? So Kathie could have her Zachary Levi moment - the Peeps store! There are only 2 Peeps stores in the US and they are both on the east coast. I am so happy that we were able to get out to National Harbor! This was on my list of things to do with Kathie on Tuesday, but we ran out of time.

Another challenge for our FitBit's this was a weekend warrior one! We walked a lot in 2 days!

Kathie's Visit - Day 5

On Saturday, May 7, we did a local event. Passport DC!!! I love this event. You are able to go into certain embassies. This is the second year that I have done Passport DC and I was so excited to share it with someone.
Our first embassy tour was Mozambique:

Next up, Botswana:

Argentina, looked interesting, so we stood in line for about 40 minutes to get in and it was well worth it!

They showed us a short video, fed us and we watched some dancing, including the tango!
After Argentina we walked through a display of a couple countries.
Then we made our way to the Brazilian Embassy.

In honor of the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, the embassy had past Olympic torches.

Here is a replica of the torch that is currently moving through Brazil. It is a pretty amazing torch and is collapses!

After Brazil we made our way back to DuPont and stopped in at the Indonesian Embassy.

After our long day of touring around the embassies we had a late lunch at a burger joint and then grabbed a bubble-tea, before we headed home for another chill evening!
