On Saturday, November 3 we did a buck list item and drove the Sky Line Drive at the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Shenandoah National Park. We started at the North Entrance at Front Royal, Virginia (about 1.5 hours west of DC).
The Skyline Drive is amazing and has so many turnouts that you can stop anywhere and look at the beautiful scenery. The entire Skyline Drive is 105 miles ending just outside Charlottesville, Virginia. This was the last weekend of the fall foliage so the park was super busy.
We saw black bear cubs!
Halfway into the park there was a great lodge, where we had a great lunch and the blueberry meringue ice cream cake was the best thing ever!
The drive through the park takes about 4 hours and once outside the park it's about 2 hours to DC. Barb was kind enough to let me stop in Springfield, Virginia and eat at Chuy's (we know how much I love Chuy's). Once we got home, we enjoyed a couple minutes on my rooftop with the fire. I mean, come on - how awesome is it to have a fire and look at the beautiful DC skyline!
